September 17 – 23, 2023 is Child Passenger Safety Week. And while keeping our children safe is important every day, we want to use this week to raise awareness.

Motor vehicle injuries are the leading cause of death for children, but many of these deaths can be prevented. This week, we encourage you to make it your goal to ensure the children in your vehicle are buckled up and sitting in the appropriate car seat. Especially on September 23, which is National Seat Check Saturday.

There are four types of car seats; rear-facing, forward-facing, booster and seatbelt. Why is it important to choose the right car seat? Car seats provide protection for infants and children and differ based on your child’s age and size. To maximize the safety of your child, keep them in a car seat or booster seat for as long as possible and seat them in the back of a vehicle, at least through age 12.

There are many resources available to help you choose the correct car seat for your child at every stage of life. Check out the National Highway Traffic Safety Association’s car seat finder and help us raise awareness for Child Passenger Safety.
